Vintage Styled Engagement Photo Session
Just like Danielle & Jason’s love story, their engagement session was one of a kind. They met years ago, after Danielle denying Jason several times, she finally gave in & her exact words… “The rest is history”. Jason proposed on Christmas morning back in 2011… talk about a long engagement. I’m very glad they waited this long or I may not have been lucky enough to capture their love during their engagement photo session.
Planning Danielle & Jason’s engagement session wasn’t as easy as most, she had a unique vision in mind and I was afraid I wasn’t leading her in the right direction. Finally, one night it came to me. I quickly grabbed my phone and emailed Danielle telling her we HAVE to do a styled shoot. That was what all our planning was lacking, a specific style. After sending me a picture of the dress she already purchased, we decided on a vintage picnic style. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Danielle’s tips to prepare for her session…
“Be comfortable; wear something that won’t restrict any poses. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to try new things. Think outside the box.”
& think outside the box we did.
I have to say, when it came to fiancé cooperation, she is ONE. LUCKY. GIRL. Jason gets an A+! He knew exactly what to do; in fact he took over the shoot. He had so many great ideas and pose suggestions, he seriously made it easy on me and better yet they both looked super comfortable in front of the camera. All Danielle did was tell him which shirt to wear.
Danielle & Jason only wore one outfit, which was just perfect. Danielle’s reasoning was because she wanted to spend more time taking fun pictures and didn’t want to waste precious time changing. Good enough reason for me, he-he.
Danielle’s dress was from Target, her adorable shoes were from Macy’s, and her bracelet was a bridesmaid gift from a friend. She did her own hair, but splurged and had M.A.C. do her makeup. “I always gleam with confidence after they work their magic,” Danielle explains. And she looked stunning.
If you have followed my work, you may have noticed I tend to keep it simple. Less props and more focus on the couple. This session was so different though, we styled this shoot to a T. We brain stormed for about a week, I let them know what I had to work with, and they topped it off with a vintage picnic basket. It really brought my vision together. I brought little vintage coke bottles, a blanket, old books, and a vintage film camera that was my Great Aunt’s. I think we all can agree the camera was our favorite prop!
“Props!! They made our photos come to life.” – Danielle
After much debate, we decided to do their engagement session at Heritage Harbor. They loved the location, but who wouldn’t? It has a little bit of everything, the lake, pier, beautiful landscape, and of course the light house.
I was ginning ear to ear while shooting with them and then while editing too. I hope their photos put a smile on your face as well. You can truly feel the love that they share. Ahhh it’s perfect.
