Our Life in Black & White | Personal

Sometimes, in the midst of everything you forget why you started or why you fell in love. Over the past few months I have felt overwhelmed by the work load involved with running a successful photography business, that i completely lost touch with why I loved being a photographer. Capturing the little moments. All of them. And especially capturing my kids. When I’m behind the camera I can relax and let them be little all while I am imprinting these memories into my mind. When Kayleen was first born I did a 365 challenge, taking one picture everyday for a year. So many little moments and details were captured that year. I would hate to forget all that goodness with Kayden or even as Kayleen grows up. So it inspired me to get out my camera and just be a fly on the wall. Capturing everything. And of course sharing.

So here is the first of what I hope to do much more often. Our Life in Black & White. Excuse the messy house and messy faces, this is our life. Our house is lived in, and 90% of the time my house is messy. Toys covering the ground, blankets on the floor instead of on the couch, laundry overflowing, as well as the sink. We are far from perfect, but we are filled with love and doing our best… and to me that is what counts.

Our Life in Black & White

Kayleen loves helping Kayden learn to walk.

And Kayden loves to always see what Kayleen is doing. They really entertain each other.

These are the little tiny details I want to remember and cherish. Those eyelashes, the fats of his fingers, his hair line, and teeny tiny piggy toes.

10 Tips for better firework photos by Christina Z Photography

Featured Friday: Tips for Fireworks Photos

10 Tips for 4th of July Fireworks Photos

“Fireworks are a tricky subject to photograph–you’re shooting in the dark, your subject keeps moving and disappearing, and it’s hard to get a good location. Here’s how to get great photos despite it all.” Source: Photojojo

Tips for 4th of July Fireworks Photos | Christina Z Photography | Bradenton, FL

Fireworks Photos by Christina Z Photography | Bradenton, FL

You might want to take some pictures of the firework display on 4th of July or your kids playing with sparklers, and I have some tips for you that will help make sure you capture those memorable moments!

  1. Go FLASH-LESS! It’s not nearly powerful enough to reach the fireworks, and even if it was you wouldn’t want to light them that way. Fireworks emit enough light on their own.
  2. Bring a tripod, bring a tripod, bring a tripod! Good firework pictures require long exposures, and the best way to get them is to use a sturdy tripod. If you don’t have one or aren’t that serious about it, do your best to brace your camera against railings, walls, or cars to keep it steady. (Or try a mini tripod! I love mine.)
  3. Use your camera’s fireworks setting! Many recent cameras have a scene mode specifically for fireworks. Try some photos with and without it and see what you prefer.
  4. Slow down to capture movement! While many think you need a fast camera, it is actually the opposite. You need to slow the shutter or a long exposure to capture the movement of the fireworks.
  5. Try using your self-timer. Even with a tripod, you may still run into camera shake. Set the timer for the shortest amount of time to help reduce vibration. Sharper shots, guaranteed.
  6. Find a location. Arrive early. Make sure you have a clear and direct view.
  7. Find Out the Direction of the Wind. You want to shoot up wind, so it goes Camera, Fireworks, Smoke. Otherwise they’ll come out REALLY hazy.
  8. Capture the people! Most likely, we have all seen fireworks before – so instead try capturing the moments in front of them, the people you are surrounded by, it will make for a more memorable picture!
  9. Experiment and try other perspectives. Wider focus, silhouettes, people watching
  10. Take lots of pictures & Have fun! Be creative and take lots of pictures. Remember you can always delete the duds later.

I hope you are able to capture some really awesome moments this Fourth of July with your friends and family! Take a look at our 4th of July from last year. & Happy Shooting!

If you still don’t know where you’ll be watching the firework display check out my list of 4th of July Outfits Events for the Bradenton area or if need some quick inspiration for your 4th of July Outfit.

Finding Your Perfect Photographer | Christina Z Photography

Recently, a good friend of mine asked me a favor. She sent me this message:

“Christina I need your help! I need to find a photographer up in Minnesota to take Cadys first birthday pictures. Where do I look? What should I look for? And what is a good price and what is outrageous?? Helllllp me!!”

Of course I jumped on the opportunity to help a girl out. So first I suggested she fly to Florida and let me photographer her beautiful Cady or offered her to buy & I’ll fly.. hehe. She didn’t go for it so on to researching I went.

So here is the information I gave to my friend Molly, and I’m letting you in on our conversation because I think we’re all friends here and you deserve to be armed with this information as well. Continue reading

Photography Goals for 2014

I know, I know, your thinking it’s mid-January, were overrrr the whole goal making phase of the new year. Well, I honestly haven’t had the chance to sit down and really think about them so here goes (& I’m not getting up until I’m all done – in a stern mother tone). I truly am a firm believer in making goals and writing them down. It helps with accountability, well you can be the judge of that. I encourage you to write your goals down, they can be publicly, personally, in a blog post, on a piece of toilet paper – whatever works (& wherever you can find the quiet place to do it).

Christina Z Photography’s 2014 Goals

I find it important to make both business and personal goals, so here are my business goals for 2014.

  1. Capturing life, one photo at a time. These are the words my business is built on, and I think it’s so important to hold true to it.
  2. Get more organized. My desk, my computer, my work flow, it all needs more organization! I could really use some shelves or more space (hmmm…)
  3. Get my work out there. Enter more photography contests, submit my work to more publications, get featured, published, get out there!
  4. Education. In order to continue to grow my business I need to keep educated.
  5. Blog regularly. It’s a great outlet, and I love showing off my most recent work.
  6. Set out to find inspiration. I want to book more inspired, concept, & styled shoots this year. I want to keep feeding my passion.
  7. Get insta liked. Reach 1,000 followers on Instagram in 2014!
  8. See familiar faces. I want to see my 2013 clients book again this year!
  9. Fifty-Two Project. Complete my weekly photo challenge. Along with a 31 day challenge in August.
  10. Have a rocking Senior Model Program.

Christina’s 2014 Goals:

Here are a few of my personal goals for 2014.

  1. Be a mom & wife first.
  2. Be more active.
  3. Practice patients.
  4. Shoot for me.
  5. Stay on top of personal editing & printing.
  6. A day in the life project. One day during my daughters birth month, I want to capture her – as she is, all day.
  7. Unplug. I’m going to start with once a month, and unplug for an entire day. Then maybe try for once a week. In order to try to be more present in life.

Photography Goals from 2013

As I mentioned earlier, I think it’s important to create goals. It’s also important to look back on those goals to see how you did. So here are my goals from last year.

  1. Capture life’s precious moments, one photo at a time! Yup!
  2. Never leave my camera. You never know what opportunities will present its self. I did alright at this, definitely brought it along more often that I would have previously.
  3. Photo a day challenge. Watch my photography develop over a year’s time. Completed!
  4. Get published. Get my photography featured on a blog/website. It’s not about who you know, but who knows you! Completed! My first ever feature was over at A Military Story – click here to read it
  5. Blog regularly. Present my work & share my personality on my own piece of the web. Completed! I blogged AT LEAST once a week.
  6. Be inspired. Remember that photography is foremost my passion. It’s easy to forget how much I enjoy it, so schedule time to find inspiration. Not enough, but I did alright.
  7. Get organized. Develop a workflow to save time & energy in post processing. Not organized enough.
  8. Be Googled. Show up on the first page of Google. Yes!
  9. Get Liked. Reach 1,000 fans by the end of the year. Yes!
  10. Shoot more! Gain 50% more clients. Yes! Above & Beyond!

I hope this inspires you to write your goals down & make the best of the New Year! I’d love to hear about your goals for 2014, too! Just remember, the most important thing about goals, is having one.

Until next time…

2 Year Anniversary | Photography Business

November marks the 2 year anniversary of Christina Z Photography and I couldn’t be more proud of my “baby”. While November is also a time to give thanks, it really means so much more. I really want to thank all my wonderful clients that have had the opportunity to get in front of my camera. I have enjoyed so much capturing all your smiles, laughter, smooches, and memories and I wish to do it for many many years to come.

I’d also really like to thank my husband and my family. Without the love and support of my wonderful husband I would absolutely not be where I am today (especially because he purchased me my first “real” camera). I’m so thankful for a family that has encouraged me to follow my dreams, and let me stick my big ole’ camera in their faces time and time again. And of course, I want to thank my little baby girl. She has been the absolute perfect model the past year and is the real reason my passion for photography has grown oodles, not to my mention my business has allowed me to spend my days at home with her.

Within the year, I have zoned in on my true passion within photography – high school seniors, couples, and families. I have really began to brand my company and transform it into the dream I’ve always had.

But of course, I would be nothing with out my very first paying client, whom I wish wasn’t so dang far away. The McBride Family trusted me with their family photos year after year, even when I had just purchased my first camera. I’m so grateful. Putting a dollar value on my product wasn’t easy back then, which leads me to also be so thankful for all the ones who stepped in front of my camera before I had the confidence to call myself a professional. Practice makes perfect right? Also, a huge thanks to my returning clients, who must have loved their experience as much as I did, to want to come back and do it again!

I’ve come a long way and only have the biggest hopes and dreams for the future. I appreciate each and every one of you that support my little dream. Let’s make it another great year!

Here’s a little walk down memory lane…
